Black Elk Peak at Sunrise || South Dakota Landmark Art Print
Giclée Fine Art open edition print of an Original illustration by Mark Herman
Black Elk Peak is the highest natural point in the U.S. state of South Dakota and the Midwestern United States. Though part of the North American Cordillera, it’s considered separate from the Rocky Mountains. From this spectacular viewpoint, you can see Cathedral Spires, Little Devils Tower, Wind Cave National Park, out over the Badlands, and on a clear day, the neighboring state of Wyoming.
Black Elk Peak was formerly known as Harney Peak, until 2016 when it was renamed for Black Elk (Lakota Sioux) for the place he received his "Great Vision" when he was nine years old. He later became a medicine man known for his wisdom.
American settlers used Black Elk Peak as a fire tower lookout in 1911, with a wood crate placed at the summit for a seat, eventually a stone fire tower was constructed in 1938 and was active until 1967 but still stands today.
About our prints: We only use Epson Brand Printers, Epson inks and Epson Enhanced Matte Paper to ensure our high quality standards and attention to detail is consistent with every print you purchase from us. Every print is made by our family owned small business and personally inspected.
Please note that some color tones and intensities may vary slightly from online to in person, but the heavy stock premium matte paper nicely enhances the rich colors in Mark’s artwork.
All of our prints include a white printed border, designed to look great when placed directly into a frame without the need for an additional mat.
The 8x10 and 16x20 prints include a small original "landmark icon" line art illustration at the bottom of the print (example image shows the size of the icon but each landmark features a unique image created by the artist to compliment the print).
