Sand Island Lighthouse || Wisconsin Landmark Art Print
Giclée Fine Art open edition print of an Original illustration by Mark Herman
Considered by many to be one of the most beautiful lighthouses on Lake Superior,Sand Island lighthouse, near the western end of the Apostle Island chain, was occupied for a shorter period than any of the archipelago's other lights. Built in 1881, it was the first of the group to be automated, in 1921. The design of the lighthouse was influenced by the Gothic style, popular during the Victorian period, and the structure was built from sandstone quarried right at the building site.
Close to the mainland, Sand Island is a popular destination for intermediate-level sea kayakers and private boaters who are prepared for the challenges of Lake Superior. In the summer season National Park Service volunteers provide tours of the lighthouse so be sure you dont miss this jewel of the Apostles on your visit!
About our prints: We only use Epson Brand Printers, Epson inks and Epson Enhanced Matte Paper to ensure our high quality standards and attention to detail is consistent with every print you purchase from us. Every print is made by our family owned small business and personally inspected.
Please note that some color tones and intensities may vary slightly from online to in person, but the heavy stock premium matte paper nicely enhances the rich colors in Mark’s artwork.
All of our prints include a white printed border, designed to look great when placed directly into a frame without the need for an additional mat.
The 8x10 and 16x20 prints include a small original "landmark icon" line art illustration at the bottom of the print (example image shows the size of the icon but each landmark features a unique image created by the artist to compliment the print location).
